Victoria-based photographer Hisao Matsui graduated from the Musashino Art University in Tokyo. A former art director/designer, he moved to Montreal in 1994 where he created illustrations for corporate and editorial clients including American Express, IBM, Merck, Time, BusinessWeek and L.L. Bean. His work was chosen for an exhibition at the Society of Illustrators, New York.
His photography has won awards at the International Color Awards (Beverly Hills), International Fine Art Photography (Paris), PhotoDC (Washington DC), Gallery Photographica (San Francisco) and the Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins). His photographs have been exhibited at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
